True 'nuf. Given my family history and my personality and god knows what else, it's taken me a long time to figure that one out, and to act on it, i.e. establishing boundaries about how I allow myself to be treated.

So the corollary might be something like...

Just because you're empathic and understanding, you don't have to be a doormat.
